Pletcher Strikes Again

Todd Pletcher continues his very hot streak sending out Largent to win Wednesday’s $57,000 Edward P. Evans Stakes at Colonial Downs. The now gelded son of Into Mischief (also on a hot streak) was a $50,000 RNA at Keeneland September in 2017.

The Pletcher charge ran to the money Wednesday evening, scoring his first black-type victory. Favored in a field scratched down to four, the bay chased the field early, but was in close range through a :24.15 opening quarter. Inching up a bit more through a half in :48.16, he split rivals in the lane and out-finished Embolden to score.

“I wanted to be a little closer than I was[early in the race],”winning rider Tyler Conner said. “I let him settle where he’s happy. My man Trevor [McCarthy] had me in a little tight. I didn’t want to take back and go around. So I just went with the momentum and hoping he’s split somewhere and I could get through.”

Never worse than second in his career, Largent romped. The winner’s dam is a daughter of MGISW Life at the Top (Seattle Slew), who is also the dam of GSW & G1SP Elizabeth Bay (Mr. Prospector). He returned to the winner’s circle last time in Hallandale, FL Mar. 28.

He now has Lifetime Record of 6 starts with four wins and two seconds, and earnings of $134,670.
