(Paulick Report) The Truesdail Laboratories in Tustin, Calif. will begin testing all samples from Maryland racetracks beginning on Feb. 6. The Board of Public Works, which includes the state’s governor, treasurer, and comptroller, approved the award of the contract to Truesdail, which was formerly the official test laboratory for the California Horse Racing Board.

The Truesdail lab is ISO 17025 accredited and is in the process of seeking accreditation by the Racing Medication Testing Consortium. Currently, the facility tests all samples for New Jersey racing.

“We not only have continued the consolidation of labs doing testing in the U.S., we have also consolidated in the Mid-Atlantic,” said Alan Foreman, general counsel for the Maryland Thoroughbred Horsemen’s Association. “This was a four-year effort that resulted in today’s contract award and is a major step for Maryland.”
