Dr. Jens von Lepel, after 16 years of overseeing Audley Farm, has announced his retirement. He and his wife will return to his native Germany this week. Horse Manager

Under von Lepel’s steady hand, the farm enjoyed a banner year in 2012 when home bred Bodemeister was named Virgini-bred Horse of the Year after winning the Grade 1 Arkansas Derby and finishing second in the Kentucky Derby and Preakness Stakes.  The Berryville-based farm has consistently enjoyed success at the Keeneland September and November Sale and the Fasig-Tipton Midlantic sales as we..

    Sad to see such a talented person disappear from the Virginia breeding and racing industry. He always seem to dignify himself around others and present the kind of image that encouraged others to perform. We’ll miss him.
