ONE VIRGINIA-BRED IN TODAY’S SECOND SESSION AT KEENELAND

There is only one Virginia-bred yearling cataloged today in the second session of the Keeneland September Yearling Sale following a strong opening session that saw of 130 horses sell for a whopping total of $34,735,00.  The average price was $267,192 for the new expanded first day session and the median was $200,000. The only negative stat was a high buy-back rate of nearly one-third of the horses led to the ring – 57 yearlings did not meet their reserves (30.5%).

The new opening day was led by four seven-figure yearlings and topped by Hip 19, a Medaglia d’Oro filly who was consigned by Gainewsay and purchased by Flaxman Stable Ireland for $1,500,000.

The lone Virginia-bred to sell was 184 Filly by Street Sense, out of Magger Bags by Indian Charlie consigned by Betz Thoroughbreds, Inc., Agent and sold Chapel Creek Equine for a final bid of $100,000. She was bred by R. Larry Johnson.
