(Press Release) Racing showed an increase in wagering and purses during the month of August as compared with August 2012, according to the racing economic indicators released by Tuesday by Equibase. Year-to-date figures were mixed, with wagering up, but purses and race days declining.
Wagering in the U.S. was up 4.69% in 2013 as compared with the same month last year. Year-to-date figures were also up, 0.10%.
Purses for August 2013 rose 5.48% as compared with August 2012; however, year-to-date figures were down, 0.07%.
The number of race days increased this year, up 1.04%, compared to August 2012. Year-to-date, race days decreased, 2.68%.
