13647_495x278Speculation abounds about whether or not MTR Gaming will accept Colonial Downs’ Jeff Jacobs offer to buy his Jacobs Entertainment.

Rumors are swirling around both ways, but common sense says it may be a good move for the gaming company that owns racetracks in the Keystone state and Ohio.  MTR Gaming owns Presque Isle which is located in Erie in a state saturated with racing and alternative gaming.   The gaming company also owns Mountaineer which is suffering from casino competition in nearby Pittsburg and Scioto Downs a harness track just south of Columbus.

With extreme competition facing their holdings, MTR would seem likely to embrace Jacobs Entertainment that owns profitable casinos and slot machines in Nevada, Colorado and Louisiana.

More is likely to be known – or at least, speculation is likely to increase – after August 6 when MTR will issue its financial results for the second quarter ended June 30, 2013.

MTR Management will conduct a conference call focusing on the financial results and recent corporate developments on that day at 4:30 p.m. EDT. Interested parties may participate in the call by dialing (888) 438-5519. Please call in 10 minutes before the call is scheduled to begin and ask for the MTR Gaming call (conference ID #9028873).
