BLUE MOUNTAIN CAT – B & D Photography/Brian Gill & Donna Kovalchick

Virginia-bred Blue Mountain Cat scored his first stakes win as a four-year-old on June 1st in the $50,000 Penn Dash Stakes.  With 19 career starts, the son of Discreet Cat found his stride, having won three other starts this year and improving after each one.

The colt vied for the lead early and never let up as he drew off in the stretch to win by one-and-one-half lengths in the five-furlong sprint on the dirt.  His front-running style certainly helped him here as there was traffic and two horses moved down behind him.

Bred by Grace Ritzenberg, Blue Mountain Cat is out the G2-winning mare Silentlea by Cherokee Run.  His second dam, Lea Carter, is a multiple Stakes winner and he is also a half to Stakes-placed Tap Softly.

The stakes win upped his career earnings to $129,573 from 19 starts and 7 wins.  He has now won four straight since February, scoring two times at Charles Town and twice at Penn National.
